KODAK Computer-to-Plate Solutions Can Reduce Waste Both in Prepress and On Press

KODAK Computer to Plate Solutions make consistent plates that can help reduce waste in prepress and press operations, and increase productivity. Award-winning KODAK SQUARESPOT Imaging Technology is available only in KODAK Platesetters and allows printers to print more consistently, accurately and reliably. SQUARESPOT Technology creates precise and robust halftone dots that are less susceptible to variations in plate, processor, and environmental conditions than other thermal or violet imaging technologies. Accurate, consistent, halftone dots can reduce plate waste, delay, material waste, and cost on press.

Reduced plate variation with Kodak's thermal digital technology

thermal_laser

Kodak's CTP technology helps reduce variation in the plate imaging process. Less variation in plate imaging decreases time and material waste during makeready, improves presswork-to-proof matching, allows reliable printing of the fine screens demanded by today's print buyers, and provides consistent color on press.

KODAK Platesetters with SQUARESPOT Technology help reduce plate waste, remakes, makeready times, compromised color, and premature plate wear. SQUARESPOT Technology minimizes halftone dot fluctuations during the developer lifecycle and keeps dot area within manufacturing tolerances of +/- 2%

Reduced air conditioning needs with Automatic Temperature Compensation

Automatic Temperature Compensation is a feature of KODAK Platesetters that makes minor adjustments to the scale of the image on the plate to compensate for plate expansion from ambient temperature fluctuations. Imaging consistently over a wide range of temperatures ensures that a remake plate fits the other plates on press and can eliminate the need for air-conditioning in the prepress room for substantial energy savings.

Reduced plate remakes with Dynamic Autofocus

Dynamic Autofocus technology tracks the surface of the plate to maintain exact laser focus, exposure, and pixel size as the drum rotates. Accurate focus is maintained despite dust behind the plate or other minor plate surface variations. Dynamic autofocus technology minimizes the occurrence of plate hotspots and tone variations, and the resulting waste of time and materials when these artifacts are discovered in prepress or on press.

More flexibility with factory calibration

Every KODAK Platesetter with SQUARESPOT Technology is calibrated at the factory to match the imaging of other KODAK Platesetters, so you can produce the same job on different devices, even in different locations, with the same color and registration.

Reduced waste with pallet loading automation

Magnus800_APL

The Automatic Pallet Loader (APL) is a unique automation feature available on the KODAK MAGNUS 800 and MAGNUS VLF Platesetters, allowing customers to minimize plate handling and dramatically reduce plate packaging waste.

Optimized for safe, easy, and efficient bulk loading, the APL enables faster plate loading, reduced labor costs, and longer unattended operation. Simply load a pallet of plates into the APL bay, and the machine does the rest, removing slip sheets and loading each plate automatically into the MAGNUS Platesetter.

Automation not only saves time, it reduces plate spoilage due to operator handling errors. Fewer production touch points minimize plate handling damage. Plate loading is easy and can be done by one person in one load - including large sizes with APL options.

The APL reduces the factory footprint needed to store plates and enables better plate inventory control. Multiple plate sizes can be delivered as needed to match print production requirements (kanban).

Plates supplied on pallets require less packaging, enabling a substantial reduction in prepress waste and disposal costs.

Reduced emissions with debris removal kits
KODAK CTP Systems include debris removal systems that are designed to collect the particulate and gaseous emissions resulting from the exposure of certain types of printing media. Debris removal kits include various cabinet types with particulate and chemical filters appropriate for different offset or flexo plates.

Equipment remanufacturing and recycling

When you are ready to upgrade your equipment, Kodak can help make sure your old CTP device and other plate making equipment doesn't end up in a landfill. Visit the Kodak Remanufactured Graphic Solutions page to contact us about buying back your old equipment. Kodak refurbishes used equipment with new components so that it can be reused instead of adding to the waste stream. Alternatively, you can take advantage of Kodak's Equipment Recycling Program (PDF 260K).
