Note, that if you need bar code recognition, the VRS 4.1 Professional version that ships with each Trūper 3200 allows you to scan and recognize bar codes without an Adrenaline board. And with no discernable difference in connection speeds, you are able to achieve approximately the same capabilities with SCSI as you do with USB. | | Advanced Color Dropout Trūper has the ability to drop out up to six unique colors per side for a form application. The reason that this is important is that it allows the form designer to create different color forms to allow the user to be visually directed when completing them, i.e. red for one set of information, pink for another, or violet for a third. It also allows the form designer to use corporate colors and have them dropped out as well. All tools to do this are provided with Trūper. These instructions are an abbreviated set. Please refer to the Trūper user manual for more detailed information: http://www.bbhscanners.com/downloads/truper_op_manual.pdf. Scan the document in color at a 200 dpi or more. - Turn on HiZoom. The HiZoom utility is located on the Trūper Resource CD. It can be loaded on to the PC, or can be run off the Trkper Resource CD.
- Place the mouse over the color to be dropped out. The individual RGB (red, green, blue) values will appear next to the mouse. Record those values. The RGB values determine the color that will be dropped out. Repeat this for all colors. After recording all of the color values, turn off HiZoom.
- Change the scanner settings back to black and white, simplex or duplex and scan one document.
- Go to the Advanced Settings tab, and click More. The Advanced Settings dialog box will appear.
- Select the side that will have the colors to be dropped out (both, front or back)
- Select the Multi Color button. The Multicolor Dropout dialog box will appear.
- Select the first custom color box on the top portion of the dialog box.
- Click the Enable check box in the lower portion of the dialog box.
- Click the Choose button. The Color dialog box will appear.
- In the Custom Color dialog box, enter the RGB values that you recorded into the Red, Green and Blue fields in the lower right portion of the Color dialog box. After entering this information, click "Add to custom color" button.
- Close the Color dialog box.
- Repeat steps 7 to 12 for the additional colors that you would like to add.
- Exit out of all of the menus, returning to the main scanning menu.
Trūper is now set up for dropping out multiple colors for your forms processing application. | | Alert Buzzer Disable Shown is the Trūper 3200. If your scanner is different, click on "Select Scanner {X}" and choose. These instructions are also found in the Trūper'sOperator Manual. To disable the Trūper 3200 / 3600 alert buzzer, open the the User Utility found on the PCs desktop or found here: "C:\Program Files\BBH\UserUtility\UserUtility.exe", and select the "Paper Mode / Buzzer Setting". If the utility is not found on the PC, it can be found on your Trūper install CD-ROM. * Selecting "OFF" disables the Trkper's Alert Buzzer for all faults. Next, turn "Buzzer Setting" to "OFF" for no alert sound, and click on "OK". To finish, close the User Utility. | | Bar Code Recognition The bar code feature resides in the scanning software application. Generally a resolution of 240 to 300 DPI (dots per inch) is best. This also holds true for 2D codes like Data Matrix and PDF-417. There is no need to purchase an Adrenaline card in order to get bar code functionality. To get bar code functionality, when selecting the scanner, make sure you choose "Trūper 3200 with AIPE". This feature is available on the Trūper 3200 and 3600 Plus version. | | Driver Selection Both the ISIS and TWAIN direct drivers for the Trūper Series scanners are fully functional. Some of the shelf applications, such as Adobe Acrobat do not fully expose all of the features outlined in the ISIS or TWAIN Programmers Guide. If there is an application that does not have the feature you're looking for, please send a detailed message about the condition to: scanner.support@bowebellhowell.com You may download or view the guides below: Additionally, the drivers do not contain any VRS elements. | | Long Document Support: Instructions For Trūper Scanners with firmware version v1.30 only. To update your Trūper scanner, contact your Scanner Service Provider. Click below for how-to-use instructions: | | NCR Paper What is NCR Paper? NCR Paper is also known as "Carbonless copy paper". It was intended to replace an earlier version of copy paper know as carbon paper. It is used to make a copy of an original handwritten or impact printed paper form. It was developed by the NCR corporation as a clean, biodegradable, manual, non-mechanical or non-electronic document replication system. How does it work? NCR paper is made up of one or more sheets of paper which are coated with very tiny micro-encapsulated (or microsphere) dye or ink droplets and reactive clay (or fine silica sand). The backside of the top sheet is coated with the very fine ink droplets. The top of the next consecutive sheet or sheets are coated with the clay. When force or pressure is applied to the top part of the form by hand writing or impact from an impact printer, the fine ink droplets burst and spill the tiny amount of the dye or ink onto the clay making a permanent mark. The key is to remember that the size of the ink droplet is around 2uM (uM is micrometers or 10 to the -6 power). Most NCR forms are no more than 5 pages, so the very top page would not have any clay, and the very last sheet-back would have no ink droplets. Composition of dyes and chemicals Some dyes are, but not limited to- crystal violet lactone. Other dyes and supporting chemicals used are PTSMH (p-toluene sulfinate of Michler's hydrol), TMA (trimellitic anhydride), phenol-formaldehyde resins, azo dyes, DIPN (diisopropyl naphtalenes), formaldehyde isocyanates, hydrocarbon-based solvents, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polyoxypropylene diamine, epoxy resins, aliphatic isocyanates, Bisphenol A, diethylene triamine, and others. Risk The risk is rare. Contact with NCR could cause dermatitis (irritation of the skin, red itchy) NCR paper was invented by David Steinhardt and patent. | | NCR: Cleaning (video) | | PC Station Requirements CPU Memory Minimum: 256 MB Recommended: 512 MB or higher for improved scanning speed Minimum: 512 MB Recommended: 1 GB or higher for improved scanning speed OS -

Windows Vista Display | | Rollers: Cleaning (video) Click below to view one of the following cleaning video presentations: To view the presentations, you will need RealPlayer. Download RealPlayer here | | Rollers: Life The rollers have a life of up to 300,000 scans. The rollers should be cleaned between 20,000 to 30,000 scans. The on/off button will glow orange as a reminder to clean the rollers if they have not been cleaned. Roller life and roller cleaning schedules are directly dependent upon the paper that is scanned. If you begin to see poor image quality before 20,000 scans, clean the rollers. The Trūper Operator Manual provides an overview of these procedures. | | Rubber Cleaner or Rejuvenator Use When using a Rubber Cleaner or Rejuvenator for cleaning scanner rollers, it is recommended to wipe the roller and surrounding area where the cleaner was applied. To do this, first, use a soft cloth, warm water and mild soap over the cleaned area. Then, wipe dry with a clean cloth. This will help prevent residues (from the cleaner) from accelerating the following described conditions. When the surface of the roller is initially exposed to solvents or similar chemicals, it swells and softens the roller or rubber surface. In addition, this could cause the pores on the roller or surrounding plastic area to open (sometimes this is desired). Some Plasticizers* may be removed from the rollers or plastic during cleaning, which cause them to harden and become brittle. This can occur either immediately or over a period of time. All plastics used in general office equipment are susceptible to this condition, some more than others. This statement does not necessarily promote the use of such cleaners, only cautions the user to their effects. *Plasticizers are additives that give plastics flexibility and durability. | | SCSI Interface Connection Specifications for Trūper 3200 UPDATED 05-AUG-08 Below are the specifications for the Trūper 3200 SCSI interface: VRS 4.10 Adrenaline 650i Current Runtime: Adrenaline 650i Runtime 4.10.039 CablePart#: BBH# S006508 is a D50M to a D68M VRS Version: VRS 4.10 Model Number: VP-W004-00S1 License Type: Workgroup Controller Hardware: Adrenaline 650i Operating System: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, WinXP, Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Win Vista Ult/Buss Minimum PC Requirement: Pentium IV 2.4 Ghz 512MB RAM Technical Notes: Adrenaline 650i Runtime 4.10.039 Version Notes: This is the version of the Adrenaline runtime that is shipped with VRS 4.10 Adrenaline 650i Hardware Notes: The Adrenaline 650i SCSI Scanner Controller is the recommended solution when applications require Kofax Image Processing capabilities. It is a 1/2 length PCI board (6 in. [15.24 cm] Long x 3.5 in. [8.89 cm] High) with a wide-SCSI connector and is used to control mid-volume to high-speed production document scanners. It provides Black & White image processing capabilities. An alternate SCSI card is the Adaptec AHA-29160LP (low profile with LP and regular mounting plate). Model VP-W004-00S1 Notes: Licensed version of VRS Professional for Workgroup type scanners. An Adrenaline 650i SCSI board is included. AIPE license is also included. | | Silex USB 2.0 Network Device How it works: The Silex Device Server has an input for a USB scanner (device) that can be remotely accessed over a network, using an Ethernet RJ-45, CAT 5 cable. The already-installed scanner drivers connect and communicate with Windows® and the Silex drivers, and appear in the scanning applications under "Scanner Select" GUI. The Silex Device Server works by broadcasting a built-in IP address over a TCP/IP network and by using its user utility, allows a user to login to the device. Once a user has logged in, the utility will assign a USB port and establish a direct link to the device attached to the Device Server. Additional install information can be found in the Silex user/installation manual, which includes install instructions. Please note, BBH Scanner Support is limited to that of our scanners and our scanners working with this device. Kofax® VRS licensing only allows one user per BBH scanner at a time. Additional Silex support should be directed to Silex Corp at www.silexamerica.com Notes: - The Silex PC software utility should be loaded on all PC's in a small workgroup environment so that users may share the scanner as a resource. However, only one user can login at a time.
- Scanning across a network from the active PC workstation may reduce overall document throughput. This depends on network traffic, PC and Server anti-virus software and other applications running on the PC.
- It is recommended that the amount of PC RAM (installed physical memory) in the user's PC be at least 512 MB (megabyte) to 1 GB (gigabyte), and be adequate to accommodate large data packet transfers for graphic image files.
- The PC's "Virtual Memory" (pagefile.sys) should be increased. The standard MS Windows recommendation is 3 times the physical memory installed. For example a PC with 768 MB RAM installed, should have it's "virtual memory" set to 2304 MB, considering the hard drive free space available.
- Do not use a USB hub with the Silex Device Server. Connect directly to the PC's USB 2.0 input.
- Silex installation instructions are included.

Advanced Clarity can convert difficult source material -- schematics, checks and other documents with dense, textured backgrounds -- into crisp, clear images for faster, more accurate processing. Improved Intelligent Content Based Rotation VRS 4.2 Professional also includes an improved Auto-Orientation feature, which relieves users of the burden of manually turning pages to the same orientation prior to scanning. This is especially valuable in high-volume operations, as it reduces time-consuming document pre-scan procedures. VRS 4.2 Professional extends Auto Orientation support to include Asian languages, as well as Arabic, Cyrillic and Greek. As with earlier releases, it also detects content in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Eliminate Hole Punch Markings VRS 4.2 Professional fills holes with surrounding page color on documents with content, improving their appearance and removing distractions for the reader. It ignores holes on pages lacking content, enhancing performance of the automatic blank page deletion feature. Desktop Productivity Features VRS 4.2 Professional's new Desktop Productivity feature enables workers to scan, correct, save and distribute documents directly from within popular e-mail programs, thereby eliminating the time-consuming need to switch to separate scanning applications. With its "FastScan" feature, VRS 4.2 Professional makes scanning, image enhancement, filenaming and attachment a one-step process, converting document images into small, high-quality Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files that are ready for immediate distribution.
