| | | | Capture Pro V3.0 FAQs | | What’s new in version 3.0?Two of the most important new features that help improve processes that rely on accurate image and data capture are: - Intelligent Quality Control
- SharePoint Index Setup Wizard
Intelligent QC allows customers several new opportunities to optimize readability of document images, using Kodak’s Perfect Page technology. First of all, Intelligent QC has the ability to perform certain image processing functions on the fly during scanning, including hole fill and auto orientation. In addition, Intelligent QC can automatically detect and flag images that have questionable noise levels for later processing, and includes an easy to use tool for adjusting those images without the need to interrupt the scanning process or to physically rescan documents. The new SharePoint Index Setup Wizard enables the user to get the most from their investment in Microsoft SharePoint by importing the indexing configuration from SharePoint into Capture Pro, reducing the need to manually create corresponding index fields in Capture Pro. The Wizard also can automatically configure Capture Pro index fields based on the column configuration in SharePoint. Capture Pro v3.0 also supports a much wider range of SharePoint column types. | | How can I get Capture Pro v3.0?If you are not currently using Capture Pro Software, you can purchase v3.0 by contacting a Kodak Authorized Imaging Reseller If you are currently using Capture Pro Software and have a current Software Assurance Agreement, you can upgrade to version 3.0 at no additional cost (to check the expiration date of your Software Assurance, in Capture Pro click on Help>About). The upgrade is available for download If you would like to try Capture Pro Software before purchasing, you can download a free 30 day Trial Edition. | | What operating systems does v3.0 support?Capture Pro Software v3.0 has been certified on the following operating systems: - Windows XP (32-bit) SP2 and SP3
- Windows XP (64-bit) SP2
- Windows Vista (32-bit) original and SP1
- Windows Vista (64-bit) original
- Windows 7 (32-bit)
- Windows 7 (64-bit)
- Server 2003 (32-bit) SP1
- Server 2003 (64-bit)
- Server 2008 (64-bit)
| | What scanners are supported by Capture Pro v3.0?KODAK Capture Pro Software supports over 160 scanners from Kodak and other manufacturers, and the list continues to grow as new scanners become available. For a complete listing, refer to the Supported Scanner List at www.kodak.com/go/kcsscannersupport. | | How do I set up Intelligent QC?Intelligent QC can be done on the fly during scanning. Intelligent QC appears as a tab on the Page Setup screen: You can choose any of all of the options to enable (Auto-Orientation, Binarize, Hole Fill). | | How do Auto Orientation and Hole Fill work?Auto Orientation automatically turns the image so the document is in the correct orientation for reading. In addition to the Western character set, it also supports Latin and Asian characters and numbers. Hole Fill searches an area 1.2 inches from all four edges of the image for round or rectangular holes, and fills them in with the surrounding color. It will not work on holes that touch the edge of the image or any black lines/boxes on the image. If Hole Fill or Auto Orientation are enabled without Binarization, then every source image (color/gray and B&W) will be hole-filled or auto-oriented separately. If Hole Fill or Auto Orientation are enabled with Binarization, then Hole-Fill and Auto Orientation are first applied to the source color image and then that image is binarized. Hole Fill and Auto Orientation can be enabled separately for front and back images. If Auto Import is used instead of direct scanning, then Hole Fill/AO will be applied to every image, as all imported images are considered to be front images. | | What does binarization do? Does it work with all scanners?Binarization requires a color or grayscale source image; it will generate an associated black and white image. When Binarizaation is enabled, all images (front and back) will be binarized. Any black and white images that are received from the scanning source will be ignored during binarization. If you are scanning in dual stream, then the color or grayscale images will not be binarized because there is already an associated black and white image. Binarization will work with any supported scanner than can provide a color or grayscale image. Binarization will not be done if the scanner selected is Kofax VRS, because VRS will only produce black and white images. | | How does image flagging work?Intelligent QC identifies images that contain excessive noise. Note that the noise detection algorithms are preset and cannot be adjusted. Nor does Intelligent QC flag images that are too light or faded. Images that are too “noisy” will be flagged by Capture Pro for post-scan review and reprocessing as needed by the operator. Both color/grayscale and the black and white versions of the image will be flagged. For example, note the “noise” in the b/w image below as well as the flag marks on both versions of the image. | | How do I adjust the “questionable” images?A new option in the Edit Toolbar allows reprocessing of the flagged images without rescanning (this means that the review and reprocessing can be done downstream of the scanning operation if desired for greater scanning productivity). Selecting the Intelligent QC tool will open a separate user dialog, in which only the images that have been flagged or selected will be viewable. Once in an Intelligent QC session, there are pushbutton tools to enable or disable Binarization, Auto Orientation, and Hole Fill for the duration of that session. In addition, there is a contrast slider bar that is used to adjust the image and remove noise. The results of any image adjustments are immediately visible. Upon selecting “Done” and exiting the Intelligent QC tool, any flagged images that were reviewed during the session will be unflagged. Flagged images that were not reviewed will remain flagged so the operator can review them at a later time. Selected images will remain selected after exiting the tool whether they were reviewed or not. | | How does Intelligent QC differ from Perfect Page?Perfect Page technology is a set of Kodak image processing capabilities that enable Kodak scanners to produce high quality images even from very poor quality originals. Intelligent QC makes use of select Perfect Page image processing technologies within Capture Pro software. | | What does the SharePoint Index Wizard do?The new SharePoint Index Setup Wizard provides easier and more comprehensive connectivity between KODAK Capture Pro Software and Microsoft SharePoint and ensures better data integrity between the capture application and SharePoint libraries. Specifically, the SharePoint Index Setup Wizard enables the following: - Importing the index configuration from SharePoint into Capture Pro, reducing the need to manually create corresponding index fields in Capture Pro
- Automatically configuring Capture Pro index fields based on the column configuration in SharePoint including syntax rules; default values; required fields; minimum and maximum length; and range of values
- Support for a much wider range of SharePoint column types including Boolean columns; date/time columns; choice columns; lookup columns
- Support for more SharePoint site settings, such as major/minor versions and check-in options
For a short narrated overview of the Wizard, refer to the Video Resources tab on this web page | | What are the benefits to using the Wizard? The SharePoint Index Setup Wizard enables the user to be more productive by reducing the amount of manual effort required for mapping SharePoint library definitions to Capture Pro job setups. It also allows users to get the most from their investment in Microsoft SharePoint by supporting a broader range of SharePoint capabilities. And by leveraging the metadata configuration already established in the SharePoint site, it ensures the integrity of data when outputting to SharePoint, which means less time spent searching for information later on. | | How do I access the Wizard? There is a button on all Job Setup screens that looks like this: When finished with the Wizard, an Output Tab option will indicate that Output has been configured for SharePoint. | | If I am using a previous version of Capture Pro and upgrade to version 3.0, what happens to my existing Job Setup that uses the SharePoint System Output Format?Existing Job Setups will be unaffected and will continue to work. The SharePoint SOD is still supported and available in the software. However, none of the new capabilities that are included in the SharePoint Wizard (e.g., multiple values, Major/Minor versions) are supported in the SharePoint SOD. | | What file types can I output to SharePoint? All file types supported by Capture Pro Software, including PDF/A and Searchable PDF, can be output to SharePoint. | | Can I import a drop down list using the Wizard?Yes, the Wizard can automatically create an index field with a drop-down list using data from a Choice column in SharePoint. This eliminates the need to manually key in all the choices in Capture Pro. Drop down list entries can also be imported from ODBC (Open Data Base Connectivity) sources such as a database, Microsoft Excel file, or text/CSV file. | | Does Capture Pro read QR bar codes?Yes, Capture Pro Software v3.0 now supports QR bar code, a 2D code popular in Asia and Europe which can contain Asian language characters. Version 3.0 also provides improved read rates on Data Matrix bar codes and added support for truncated PDF-417 bar codes. |
| | | | Capture Pro V2.5 FAQs | | How much can I customize the way I index documents? The new Indexing API that comes with Capture Pro Software v2.5 provides a lot of flexibility for creating custom integrations that require full access to all index field data during indexing. For example the API allows you to define custom business rules and error messages in order to use the content of one index field to validate or populate another index field, or change another index field’s properties (for example to hide it or make it read only). | | What image file types can I output?Capture Pro Software v2.5 now makes it possible to convert image data into plain text (.txt) files, in addition to outputting files as TIFF, multi-page TIFF, JPEG, multi-page PDF, RTF, searchable PDF, PDF-A, and compressed color PDF. | | How much flexibility do I have in controlling OCR functionality?Capture Pro Software v2.5 provides more OCR control than ever. For example, it is now possible for the user to optimize the OCR operation for either greater speed or greater recognition accuracy, depending on the needs of the particular job, the quality of the originals, etc. In addition, you can now add your own specific jargon to the recognition process by using custom dictionaries, which helps to eliminate recurring corrections caused by inability to match words in language dictionaries. Version 2.5 also allows multiple language selection which provides faster recognition in documents with mixed language content. For example, one can select Russian and English to account for words that don’t have a localized equivalent. | | Does Capture Pro Software support Bates numbering?Capture Pro Software v2.5 provides an enhanced image stamping function that allows users to build a custom string that may contain one or more metadata fields, including job, batch, and document and document information, in addition to sequential numbering. Using this feature, it is possible to add Bates numbering to scanned images so they can be traced back to their scanned origin, which is important for eDiscovery. | | Does Capture Pro Software support output to Microsoft SharePoint 2010?Yes, Capture Pro Software v2.5 includes full support for Microsoft SharePoint 2010, in addition to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. | | Does Capture Pro support Windows 7?Yes, Capture Pro Software v2.5 is fully compatible with Microsoft Windows 7. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 are supported. | | What new scanners are supported in Kodak Capture Pro Software v2.5?Kodak Capture Pro Software v 2.5 now supports the Kodak i4200 and i4600 scanners, the Kodak Truper 3210 and 3610 scanners and the Kodak i1405 scanner. In addition, we continue to expand the number of non-Kodak scanners supported in Kodak Capture Pro Software. See the latest list of supported scanners: |
| | | | Auto Import Edition | | Now that there is a separate Auto Import Edition, is the auto import feature still supported in Capture Pro Software? Yes, Kodak Capture Pro Software v2.5 continues to provide the full auto import capability in license groups E-G. However, for those customers who want to import images that originate from MFPs, specialty scanners or existing image repositories, and don’t need to be directly connected to a scanner, a dedicated workstation with Kodak Capture Pro Software Auto Import Edition can be a cost-effective alternative to purchasing a full Capture Pro group E license. | | Are there any differences between the auto import functionality in the standard Capture Pro product and the Auto Import Edition? No, the auto import functionality works exactly the same. And once images are imported using the Auto Import Edition, all the image processing, indexing, and output capabilities of the standard Capture Pro Software product are available. With a license for groups E-G, customers have the ability to switch between scanning and automatically importing; however, they cannot do both at the same time. The Auto Import Edition is especially intended for customers needing dedicated and unattended capabilities to integrate documents originating from network scanners, multi-functional devices and existing image repositories into their capture workflow. | | What file types are now supported in the auto import feature?Auto import continues to support many popular image files including tiff, jpeg, bmp, gif, and png. In addition, it allows you to import existing PDF files. Both single-page and multi-page PDF files are supported. It is ideal for handling mixed input of different file types. | | I usually plan to use auto import, but may occasionally need to scan directly into my workflow. How do I switch between scanning and auto import? Switching between auto import and regular scanning is done from the Select Scanner menu option. To enable auto import, you select “Auto Import” as your scanner. To enable scanning, you select the scanner model attached to your PC. If you usually use Capture Pro Software (Group E, F, or G only) in auto import mode, you can configure Capture Pro Software v2.5 to start in auto import automatically when you launch Capture Pro, and to keep auto import enabled until you specifically disable it. The Auto Import Edition is meant for dedicated operation in auto import mode. It does not provide an option to connect to a scanner. | | When importing images using auto import are all the images put into one document or can they be treated separately? The auto import feature now has the ability to preserve the existing document structure when importing images, which means it is now possible to create a new document for each image file that is imported. This is useful when the image files already represent individual single- or multi-page documents. In addition, document and batch separation for imported files can be performed by folder structure. |
| | | | V2.0 Support Questions | | During the installation, I received a message indicating I need to install .NET 3.0 or greater. Where can I find that? Capture Pro Software v 2.0 requires Microsoft Windows .NET 3.0 (or greater) to be installed on the target PC. Many PCs already have .NET 3.0 installed. But if yours does not, use the link below to download and install the latest .NET release (Version 3.5): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en If the workstation running Capture Pro v 2.0 is not connected to the Internet, there is a re-distributable file that can be downloaded to a portable media and installed on computers that are not connected to the Internet. From a computer connected to the Internet, follow the link noted above. Scroll to the bottom of the page until you find the following section and follow the instructions: " Full Redistributable Package To download the full redistributable package, rather than the bootstrapper, click on the link below to start the download: .NET Framework 3.5 full package" | | Does Capture Pro v 2.0 have to be running to use the Auto Import feature? Can I scan and use Auto Import at the same time? Capture Pro must be running on the PC in order for Auto Import to take place. There is a menu selection to enable Auto Import. When Auto Import is enabled, you cannot scan. So your Group E (or higher) license can either be configured to scan or do Auto Import, but you cannot do both at the same time. It is possible to dedicate blocks of time to each function on the same PC; for example, an operator can scan during the day, then switch to Auto Import mode and allow the workstation to run Auto Import unattended during the off hours. If you wish to have dedicated scanning stations and a dedicated Auto Import station, then you would need to purchase a separate Group E license that would be dedicated to Auto Import. | | Is the Auto Import feature available for all license groups? Currently the Auto Import feature is available for license groups E-G. In the future, we expect to make available a separate Auto Import Product. However, note that by purchasing e.g. a group E license of KODAK Capture Pro Software, any customer can make use of Auto Import capabilities because the use of a scanner is optional. | | What file types does the Auto Import feature support? Auto Import supports many popular image files including tiff, jpeg, bmp, gif, and png. It does not currently support PDF files. | | What types of capture devices can I use with Auto Import? The Auto Import capability in KODAK Capture Pro Software works independently of capture devices; although the use of a scanner is possible for license groups E-G, this is merely a different mode in which the software can operate. As long as a capture device is capable of outputting supported image file types to a location that has been set up as an Auto Import folder in a KODAK Capture Pro Software job, these images can be imported automatically. This means that you should be able to use a very broad range of capture devices, including e.g. the KODAK Scan Station 500, large format scanners and even multifunctional devices in combination with Auto Import in KODAK Capture Pro Software. | | In using Database Lookup, is there any way to match on more than one index fields? Any one defined lookup action uses a single Kodak Capture Pro Software index field to perform the database lookup in an ODBC compliant data source. Multiple lookups may be defined; however, in version 2.0 matches cannot be done based on a combination of index fields. | | In Auto Import, when I drop a number of files directly into the “Hot Folder,” they are not processed. Why? Auto Import requires that files be located in sub-folders within the Hot Folder. | | In Auto Import, when I drop a folder containing number of different file types into the “Hot Folder” some of them are not imported, and I cannot locate them. Where are they? By default, files processed by Auto Import are moved to an Archive folder. Look there to find the files. Keep in mind that unsupported file types, such as PDF, are not processed by Auto Import. | | In Database Lookup setup wizard, what is the difference between Validate Index Fields and Populate Index Fields? Validate Index Fields is useful when you simply want to verify that the data in an index field is valid and does link to the correct, valid record. Populate Index Fields not only validates an index field, but also automatically extracts the information from designated columns in the reference database and populates the corresponding index fields in Capture Pro software, thus reducing the amount of manual data entry required to index the document. | | When in the workflow does database lookup occur? Capture Pro software is designed to be flexible so it can fit into a wide range of workflow scenarios. Database lookup can be done at several points in your workflow, depending on your specific needs: - During scanning
- In Indexing mode when editing “Index input field” data or when navigating to next/previous/next invalid
- When opening an existing batch
- When outputting a batch
| | What types of databases are supported by the new Database Lookup feature in Capture Pro Software? Capture Pro Software will work with any ODBC-compliant Data Source when performing database lookup. Kodak has specifically tested with MS-Access, SQL Server, and flat text file databases. However, because we use ODBC to connect to the database, any compliant ODBC Data Source (e.g., Oracle) should work. | | I cannot select the same file types when creating output to System Output Destination as I can when creating output to a file (File 1 or File 2); why is that? In version 2.0, the architecture of the software now allows System Output Destinations to have access to all the same file types as are available for File 1 or File 2 output creation. However the choice of file types for System Output Destinations that already existed in previous versions of Kodak Capture Pro Software may indeed be limited. Some System Output Destinations such as Microsoft SharePoint and File360 have been updated whereas others have not. Also, System Output Destinations may have been developed by a third party that has not yet applied the new capabilities, or the choice of file types may not be applicable to the receiving system. | | Do I still need to install a separate Capture Pro component on my SharePoint Server in order to output batches to Microsoft SharePoint? Not anymore. The Microsoft SharePoint System Output Destination has been updated in Capture Pro Software Version 2.0 and no longer requires a separate component to be installed on the customer’s SharePoint server. In addition, Index Field Mapping has been added to make it easy to associate index fields in Capture Pro to associated metadata fields in SharePoint. | | What new scanners are supported in KODAK Capture Pro Software v2.0? KODAK Capture Pro Software v 2.0 now supports the KODAK i1120 ScanMate scanner. Click the following link for the latest list of supported scanners | | When I perform a rescan when my scanner is still enabled, I see that sometimes images are added to the end of the document; why is that? When you select pages for rescanning, only those pages will be replaced. Because you may continue to scan more pages, any pages that exceed the number you selected for rescanning will be appended to the current document unless one of those pages triggers a document separation. If instead you wish to insert pages you may do so by selecting the insert tool. Also note that when you perform a rescan when your scanner is not enabled – i.e. the scanner was stopped prior to performing the rescan – any pages you scan above and beyond the number of selected pages for rescan will be discarded. | | Does Capture Pro Software support 64-bit operating systems? Yes. Capture Pro Software Version 2.0 has been certified on the 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Vista. | | Will Kodak Capture Desktop Software also be updated now that you have introduced Capture Pro v2.0? There are no plans to update KODAK Capture Desktop Software at this time. This application continues to offer essential capabilities for productive batch and document capture and is available with the purchase of select new Kodak document scanners. Customers in the United States may also purchase the application online for use with a KODAK scanner they already own and which came with different capture software. With the addition of the new capabilities customers have now even more reasons to check out the great value of KODAK Capture Pro Software v2.0. |

| | | | V1.1 Support Questions | | I am using a third party scanner with the ISIS Driver. When I select Skip Blank Page, and I scan a two-sided document the resulting image is two one-sided pages (instead of a front and rear image of the same page). How do I avoid this happening? You need to select a different option for scanning images. Open the Page Setup dialog box (File>Page Setup) and click the Auto Delete tab. From this tab select the Delete Back image when (by Image size byte or Image content %) option that works best for your scan job. | | I am using a third party scanner and if I select Stop within KODAK Capture Pro Software during scanning, I do not get all of my pages that were scanned. Why? The scanner you are using probably does not support the Feeder Pause feature. Your scanner cannot safely stop in the middle of scanning, therefore, some images are discarded when the Stop button is selected. | | I installed the full version of KODAK Capture Pro Software and then installed the Demo version to try some features. I uninstalled the Demo version after I was finished. Now when I attempt to output a Searchable PDF from my full version of Kodak Capture Pro Software, it fails. How do I fix this? You need to reinstall the full version of Kodak Capture Pro Software. | | I installed the new KODAK Capture Desktop Software. When I installed it, the folders I used were the same as the folders for KODAK Capture Pro Software. Now, I get a blank page. Why? The folder for the application must be unique between Kodak Capture Desktop Software and Kodak Capture Pro Software. Uninstall the software and reinstall it to different folders and it will work. | | I am using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. When I select the dropdown arrow in the File Type Options list, TIFF is the only file type available. Using the Up and Down arrows on the keyboard will display additional file types. Scroll through those file types to select the one you want. | | When I installed KODAK Capture Pro Software, the WIBU key was not recognized. Why? The system is recognizing a previous version of the WIBU driver. To fix this: Remove the WIBU key from the PC; Insert the KODAK Capture Pro Software Installation DVD in the CDROM drive; Go to D:\utilities\WIBU with "D:" being the your DVD drive and run the WKRuntime.exe file | | I installed KODAK Capture Pro Software on my PC with the Windows 2003 Server operating system. When I attempt to start the software, nothing happens. Why? KODAK Capture Pro Software does not support the Windows 2003 Server operating system. Install KODAK Capture Pro Software on one of the supported operating systems: Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2 and SP3 (32-bit) or Windows Vista (original) and SP1 (32-bit). | | I am installing KODAK Capture Desktop Software and it does not work. I get an error that says “Error getting path to shell folder for common documents”. Create a folder named "Documents" instead of "Public Documents" in the “C:\Users\Public\” folder and it will install correctly. | | Why is scanning so slow? I am using Kodak Capture Pro Software with a Kodak i830 Scanner and am experiencing HUGE image lag time from the scanner to the computer. I have verified this is not a problem with the scanner, but is an issue with the software. The message "Image buffer almost full, processing will continue when buffer is less full" is being displayed. I do not know how to increase the buffer limit or how to clear it out. At the current image processing speed, the scanner and software are useless; it is taking 6 to 10 seconds to display the images in Capture Pro Software. The image buffer is where images are stored on the scanner. The message, "Image buffer almost full, processing will continue when buffer is less full" indicates that the PC is telling the scanner to "wait" as it copies the images to it. This can be caused for a number of reasons: Verify that the PC meets or exceeds the following minimum hardware requirements--2.8 GHz processor with at least 1 GB on memory. Recommended configuration: Dual Core Processor; Memory: 4 GB Ram (More memory is better); Hard Disk: 40 GB (7200 RPM) or better; DVD-ROM drive; Monitor resolution: Minimum 1024X768 Check your anti-virus program. Sometimes your anti-virus program checks the images as they come across, thus slowing the PC down. It is recommended that you exclude the Scan Cache folder where the images are going into within your anti-virus program. The default is "C:\ScanPro" See if the Scan Cache is a network address. If it is, move the Scan Cache to a local drive, such as C:\ScanPro (the default) to see if the speed increases. |
