ArtCenter switches to KODAK TRILLIAN SP Thermal Plates and KODAK NEXPRESS Light Black HD Dry Inks

In order to maximise customer loyalty by providing optimum quality in conjunction with reduced environmental impact, ArtCenter has switched to using KODAK TRILLIAN SP Thermal Plates , invested in a Baum feeder to work alongside its KODAK NEXPRESS SE2500 Digital Production Color Press , and made the decision to use KODAK NEXPRESS Light Black HD Dry Inks to further increase the quality of its digital printing. These updated technologies complement ArtCenter's already existing portfolio of KODAK Products, which have all been adopted in the company's pursuit of the highest quality and performance at all times.A 360 degree KODAK SolutionArtCenter was established in 1999 as the result of the merger of two companies with twenty years' experience - one an expert in photolithography and the other a specialist in photocomposition. A partnership with the advertising agency Winning Associati was consolidated after this, in 2006. Both companies are based in Bernareggio, in the Monza Brianza area of Italy, and are managed by several partners."The integration between ArtCenter, which carries out digital printing and service activities, and Winning Associati is perfect, because it allows the agency to suggest digital printing and the company handling production to use the agency's creativity for its own customers. We have twenty people in production and ten in the agency," explain Arnaldo Passeri and Massimo Morini, co-owners of ArtCenter and Winning Associati. As a company offering digital printing applications including brochures, technical and fashion catalogues, promotions, instruction manuals and print campaigns, as well as making plates for customers working with offset printers, ArtCenter utilises an extensive range of KODAK Solutions. For offset, the company uses KODAK TRILLIAN SP Thermal Plates and one KODAK LOTEM 800 II Quantum Platesetter with multi-cassette units. For digital printing, the company has been using a KODAK NEXPRESS SE2500 Digital Production Color Press since 2009, providing customers with printed products indistinguishable from those obtained with offset printing, on any type of paper. To manage such a varied range of activities, ArtCenter also uses KODAK PRINERGY Workflow Software.New plates for new customer demands and digital printing for flexible solutions and reduced wasteArtCenter recently decided to switch to KODAK TRILLIAN SP Plates to keep up with the changing needs of its customers. As Arnaldo Passeri explains, "The plates we used before were not resistant enough for UV printing, which some of our customers use. With the TRILLIAN SP Plates, baking is no longer necessary for UV printing, and the printers that we supply are really pleased with the quality of results obtained. One of the major advantages of the high-performance TRILLIAN SP Plates is the fact that they require less chemistry to process and eliminate the need for baking, further reducing environmental impact."Having invested in a KODAK NEXPRESS SE2500 Press in 2009 in order to stand out from other printers in the region by offering to print on all types of paper, including matte and glossy coated papers, uncoated paper, recycled paper, embossed cardboard and paper with pearlescent and metallic surfaces, ArtCenter has recently enhanced its capabilities even further. ArtCenter customers can now choose from glossing, with the KODAK NEXPRESS Glossing Unit, matte varnishing with reservation, and dimensional printing."However, there was another feature that convinced us to choose Kodak: sheet size and speed. We can print five colours in-line at a speed of 2,500 steps per hour and a maximum sheet size of 350 x 500 mm (13.78 x 19.68 inches). A few months ago, in response to requests for 3- or 4-leaf or even larger jobs, we decided to extend this format capacity, and installed a Baum feeder in-line with the KODAK NEXPRESS Press. Now we can comfortably print covers with fly-leaves in sizes of up to 350 x 920 mm (13.78 x 36.22 inches)", adds Arnaldo Passeri. The company also decided to switch to KODAK NEXPRESS Light Black HD Dry Inks earlier this year, to further increase the quality of its digital printing. These inks produce tones that are more consistent with skin tones while still maintaining superb detail and more realistic neutral and grey tones. This solution uses proprietary algorithms that replace specific colours with light black and is ideal for printing high-level commercial images for photographic applications and marketing materials. The fact that these inks are much thinner also provides ArtCenter with greater resolution in CMYK printing.Quality guaranteed and reduced environmental impactAlways anxious to improve performance, ArtCenter has constantly updated its technologies in pursuit of its primary objective of quality at all times, "making us more competitive and ensuring customer loyalty. We want to satisfy our customers in the best possible way, and the KODAK Systems that we use all allow us to do that. We now have firm environmental credentials thanks to the TRILLIAN SP Plates, and we're able to offer the flexibility of digital printing whilst ensuring the highest level of quality, thanks to our KODAK NEXPRESS Press solution. We love our work, and our possibilities are now endless thanks to Kodak's technology." says Arnaldo Passeri."ArtCenter has a positive outlook for the future: the company is certain that digital printing will be used more and more, and that the quality provided for digital plates and print jobs will see orders increase, supported by timely and precise assistance from our Kodak service engineers. ArtCenter demonstrates with concrete facts the Kodak philosophy that allows users to update their digital printing system in the field based on their needs," says Alfredo Lorenzini, Kodak Marketing Manager, Commercial Business, Mediterranean Cluster.#About KodakKodak is a technology company focused on imaging for business. Sego Group Becomes First Printer in France to Invest in KODAK PROSPER S20 Imprinting System

Expanding the capability to meet the demand for short runs and meet its customers’ variability requirements, Sego Group is creating new opportunities with a Kodak high-speed hybrid digital printing solution.EYSINS, SWITZERLAND, 13th November 2014 – The Sego Group, a printer covering the entire graphics supply chain, has decided to invest in hybrid technology. This privately-owned French printing house has opted for the KODAK PROSPER S20 Imprinting System, set to go into operation in November 2014 at its production plant in Taverny, near Paris. The system uses KODAK Stream Inkjet Technology and the KODAK CS410 System Controller to deliver a powerful solution that utilises existing equipment (a 48-page press with an output of 50,000 copies per hour) without compromising on speed. This new technology will enable the Sego Group to provide customers with new advertising opportunities with highly targeted products.“As users of Kodak innovations for many years, from prepress technology with KODAK PRINERGY Workflow to KODAK ELECTRA XD Thermal Plates and the KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Platform, it was quite natural that we should turn to Kodak when we sensed the emergence of a new market segment,” says Hervé Richard, the Sego Group’s chairman.“In actual fact, our major retail customers are constantly seeking to go further with the regional segmentation of their sales brochures, whilst maintaining the lower costs provided by offset printing. Publishers now want to personalise their media in order to derive maximum value from advertising or to insert unique flash codes, for instance. Paper is facing ever sharper competition from other media, especially digital. This investment enables us to substantially increase the impact of messages put before readers, delivering unparalleled added value to our customers.”From now on, the Sego Group’s customers will have access to regional advertising that is variable in each edition, while still being able to maintain offset reliability, productivity, cost of ownership and quality. In turn, an improved return on marketing investment for the advertising sector can be achieved as variable promotions are known to improve response rates and designing highly targeted advertisements and competitions can help to attract new sources of income.Claude Desbrugères, Cluster Business Director, France & Benelux, adds: “After a number of installations in neighbouring European countries, we are delighted to see the French market opening up to this technology. Kodak is asserting itself as a pillar of the graphics industry in the offset, hybrid and digital sectors.”#About Sego With 12 web presses (8 to 80 pages), Sego is a major player in the offset printing market. Sego is part of the “Sego group” which also operates in pre-media, digital printing, sheet-fed printing, binding (stitching and glued square back), as well as sorting and mailing. This entire graphics supply chain is located at a single 55,000 square metre (592,015 sq. feet) industrial site on the outskirts of Paris (15 km/9 miles). The group is also involved upstream, via its ELEVEN PR agency that specialises in comprehensive advertising and which, beyond Print, is also developing websites and apps for tablets and smartphones.About Kodak Kodak is a technology company focused on imaging for business. Customers to Benefit from Upgrades to KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Press Platform

Customers to Benefit from Upgrades to KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Press PlatformROCHESTER, N.Y., September 26 — Kodak has enhanced the KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Press Platform to expand its capabilities and provide printers with new options for meeting their customers’ requirements. These configuration changes will become standard on all presses built in 2015 and will be available as optional or standard upgrades on the majority of installed KODAK NEXPRESS Presses. The new configurations of the KODAK NEXPRESS Presses will include the expansion of long sheet capability, the addition of Dura Coat Mode and the inclusion of KODAK NEXPRESS Light Black HD Dry Ink in the Fifth Imaging Unit. An automated imaging cylinder cleaning system will also be added.“The latest improvements to the KODAK NEXPRESS Presses are examples of Kodak’s commitment to providing many years of post-purchase value,” said Doug Edwards, President, Digital Printing & Enterprise, Eastman Kodak Company. “The popularity of the KODAK NEXPRESS Presses stems from their reputation as purchases that keep giving, a fact that is not lost on business owners in a competitive marketplace.”KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Press Platform Enhancements  1 Meter Sheet Length: The current long sheet capability of 36 inches will be expanded to support sheets up to 1 meter (39.37”) in length, with the incorporation of the optional Long Sheet Feeder. Initial key applications include point-of-sale signage, gate-folded marketing materials and extended size dust jackets for books. Presses currently installed with a Long Sheet Feeder can be upgraded in field to support the 1 meter sheet length. The currently available Long Sheet Delivery Unit already supports the 1 meter length sheets.Dura Coat Mode: A KODAK NEXPRESS Press configured with a Clear Dry Ink Fifth Station already provides a robust set of capabilities for coating and specialty finishes. Dura Coat Mode is the latest addition, using KODAK NEXPRESS Clear Dry Ink to deliver a clear thin matte layer over only the locations on the sheet that have CMYK ink, based on automated image processing performed on the KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Front End. This economically protects the underlying ink in mailing applications and uses less clear ink than other forms of flood coating. It also produces a unique finish that can be used to further differentiate the design of the job. Dura Coat Mode is available on presses configured with System 15.1 software.Standard Light Black HD Dry Ink Station: All new KODAK NEXPRESS Presses in 2015 will be configured with a Light Black HD Dry Ink Station as a standard in the KODAK NEXPRESS Fifth Imaging Unit Solution. The addition of Light Black HD Dry Ink in the Fifth Imaging Unit provides outstanding image quality across a wide variety of applications while extending the yields of key consumables on the press. It also typically reduces the amount of CMYK ink used on the sheet. Automated Imaging Cylinder Cleaning System: A new cleaning system designed to reduce operator maintenance and increase imaging cylinder life will automatically clean the imaging cylinders on a periodic basis. This system will be standard on all presses using HD Inks and optional for presses using non-HD Inks. These new enhancements will be demonstrated at Kodak’s booth (#831) at GRAPH EXPO, in addition to the functionality introduced in 2013 and 2014 – Smart RGB, Ink Optimization, Economy Mode, Long Sheet Delivery Unit, CP BOURG SHEET FEEDER Cart, KODAK NEXPRESS VII Front End (High Performance with System 15.1) and KODAK NEXPRESS Gold Dry Ink.  Existing KODAK NEXPRESS Press customers are encouraged to stop by the booth to get a demonstration of these new upgrades available for their presses.#About Kodak Kodak is a technology company focused on imaging for business. For the second year running Kodak will be showcasing its digital newspaper portfolio and samples at the Digital Pavilion, in Hall 11, allowing visitors to hear first-hand how Kodak’s cutting-edge technology can used for full page, digital newspapers and targeted short-run newspapers for remote distribution. “Kodak’s deep understanding of the whole printing process will be clear for all to see at this year’s show. We’re unique in that we can provide both offset and digital inkjet newspaper solutions. Not only that, but we use our own intellectual property, and manufacture our own consumables and equipment, as well as the raw imaging technology such as thermal heads for our platesetters and inkjet heads for our inkjet presses. It’s the expertise that this experience of every aspect of the printing process brings that makes us stand out from our competitors.” said Philip Cullimore, Regional Managing Director EAMER.Added automation - KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS Platesetter Kodak’s new CTP automation capabilities enable customers using the KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS Platesetter to meet their business needs, drive maximum productivity and reduce labor costs. The new optional Single Cassette Unit (SCU) is now available as an add-on to allow automated plate loading and unloading of up to 150 plates per hour (productivity may be influenced based on job ticket specifications) with slip sheet removal and automatic plate rotation. With the addition of the SCU option, these modular KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS Platesetters are now available in semi-automatic, auto unload, autoloader and single cassette unit configurations. This added layer of automation provides customers with the ability to experience high-quality, reliable plate making while achieving uninterrupted, unattended operation for up to three hours, a reduction of prepress labor, faster time to press, and the option to bypass automation for maximum uptime.Eliminating processing - the KODAK SONORA NEWS Process Free Plate Completely eliminating processing not only reduces the chemistry, equipment maintenance, and energy costs of processing, it improves process control for greater quality and more efficient operations, reduces environmental impact, and improves profitability. Specifically designed for newspaper applications, SONORA NEWS Plates work well in both manual and highly automated platemaking environments and enable newspaper printers to get their jobs to press quickly by eliminating the time needed for traditional processing. SONORA NEWS Plates offer very fast imaging speeds, which visitors will be able to see demonstrated on the TRENDSETTER NEWS Platesetter on the stand. The plates can image at up to 240 plates per hour on the KODAK GENERATION NEWS Platesetter, fast enough for some of the larger newspaper operations. Exceeding industry standards – the KODAK PROSPER 6000P Press Kodak continues to exceed industry standards in digital color print with the introduction of the KODAK PROSPER 6000 Presses. With new innovations in transport, drying, and writing systems, combined with advanced press management technology, the PROSPER 6000 Presses are a completely new product offering that deliver high levels of reliability, print speed and application flexibility. Newspaper printers and publishers need to drive innovation and leverage technology to gain a competitive advantage. KODAK PROSPER 6000 Presses make it possible to reach new audiences more efficiently, while streamlining print runs and adapting print editions to target different readers. Digitally printed newspapers are the same size as offset versions and have the same look and feel, offering a high-quality appearance that is readily accepted by advertisers and readers. The 6000 Presses allow multiple newspaper titles to be produced in very short runs. The right number of newspaper editions needed for each outlet can be produced with sufficiently high productivity for medium-sized markets: 15–20,000 newspapers. Maximizing variable data capabilities - the KODAK PROSPER S-Series Imprinting System For applying elements of variable data, there is the KODAK PROSPER S-Series Imprinting System. At up to 3000 fpm (900 mpm), it is the higher-performance choice for newspaper hybrid printing.Customers can use the PROSPER S-Series System to help increase circulation and provide new variable data advertising services and imprint other variable components including consecutive lottery numbers, variable QR codes, and changing artwork, across a width of up to 10.56cm at full production speed. “Our PROSPER S-Series System is opening up a whole new layer of creativity within the newspaper printing industry. The heads allow a traditional product to be brought right into the 21st Century”, adds Mr Cullimore. A hot topic - the KODAK THERMALNEWS PT Digital Plate Helping to improve competitiveness and sustainability for newspapers are the KODAK THERMALNEWS PT Digital Plates, which provide the print quality and stability of thermal plates, while enabling printers to eliminate the preheat and prewash from processing to save electricity and water and reduce process variability. THERMALNEWS PT Plates enable newspapers that are not ready to switch to a process free plate to reduce operational costs, time, variability and environmental impact.Violet plates must utilise a preheat step, but THERMALNEWS PT Plates eliminate this step, letting printers achieve greater stability and more consistent quality while maintaining productivity. Removing preheat can cut energy usage by up to 60%. Similarly, by eliminating the prewash step, the water consumption in processing is reduced by 50%, whilst using equal or less developer. THERMALNEWS PT Plates can be used with a no preheat, no prewash thermal plate processor, such as the compact KODAK T-HDX Plate Processor, or the plate can be processed through a standard processor with the preheat turned off for energy savings, or turned on for longer run lengths. Without the preheat, THERMALNEWS PT Plates can achieve the same run lengths as KODAK THERMALNEWS GOLD Digital Plates, with up to 200,000 impressions. Plus, for those newspapers requiring longer runs, 350,000 impressions can be achieved when used with preheat, and even longer runs are possible with baking.Enhanced features - Wobe’s wNewsNet Workflow 7Kodak will also be exhibiting the latest newspaper workflow from wobe-team. wNewsNet Workflow 7, combines faster planning capabilities with more automated processes, web based product planning and overall ease of use to ensure that all digital production data in a newspaper prepress department is effectively and easily managed. New additions include the wNewsNet 7 page pair engine, which handles 8-up pairing and beyond by calculating the page assignment automatically according to freely definable folding schemes. The new wNewsNet-Portal solution offers modules for Product planning, PDF file upload, online preflight check and customer approval, all this within the web browser. By this a print house gets the tools to streamline how they work together with their customers.Kodak’s overall approach to the newspaper market includes offset and digital solutions that enable customers and partners to create the most appropriate solutions for their business needs. KODAK NEXPRESS VII Front End Offers Configurable Solution for Breadth of Market Needs

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Jul. 8 — Today Kodak continued its assertion as a leader in digital front end solutions with the introduction of the KODAK NEXPRESS VII Front End with System 15.1 Software. Built on open standards to offer a highly scalable and configurable architecture, KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Front Ends allow an operation to expand in processing power as production needs in image and data intensity grow in parallel. The announcement is paired with the introduction of the Long Sheet Delivery Unit, a new accessory that, when used with a KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Press, empowers printers with the flexibility of delivering larger sheet sizes to support a wider variety of applications. The technologies continue to expand the KODAK NEXPRESS Platform-enabled applications that empower commercial print providers to continually differentiate themselves with growing and innovative print solutions.“The NexPress Platform is truly next-generation technology, given the gains in quality, productivity and flexibility it affords print service providers,” said Doug Edwards, President, Digital Printing & Enterprise, Eastman Kodak Company. “These enhancements to the NexPress offerings will only accelerate that impact.”“The latest DFE VII version provides a rich set of tools that sets print service providers up to take advantage of new print applications, positioning them for growth in a market that’s constantly evolving and broadening,” said Len Christopher, NexPress Business Manager, Digital Printing & Enterprise, Eastman Kodak Company. “This new DFE features System 15.1 Software, offering three new print modes – two targeted towards repeatable, high-volume applications like direct mail and transactional and a third targeted at the growing photographic market, a lucrative digital market for print service providers.”KODAK NEXPRESS VII Front EndThe KODAK NEXPRESS VII Front End drives all the presses within the KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Platform and is the first digital press front end in the industry to have achieved ADOBE PDF Print Engine 3.2 Certification. Beyond offering robust job management, imposition, color management, screening, raster image processing, engine/accessory control and maintenance services, the DFE VII Front End comes in two configurations to serve printers with different needs:Ultra Performance: the Ultra Performance configuration is ideal for new capabilities like SmartRGB as well as photo-rich and high variable data content applications like direct mail and transactional printing. The configuration provides maximum quality and productivity, featuring 64GB RAM so the press is never waiting for files, reducing JPEG compression errors while still keeping fine details.High Performance: the standard mode features 32GB RAM, suited to support standard commercial digital print applications.System 15.1 SoftwareEconomy Mode: unique halftone screen designed to use significantly less ink and also increase ORC lives when used exclusively, making it ideal for high volume direct mail and transactional applications.Ink Optimization: provides greater color stability and color consistency between press runs for repeatable jobs over time or from press to press. Operations save CMY (Cyan Magenta Yellow) inks by substituting black ink where possible.SmartRGB: significantly improves skin tones by removing grain, keeping details necessary for photo-rich applications.Long Sheet Delivery UnitIncreased productivity: deliver sheets up to 14 x 36 inches, enabling a more diverse set of print applications.More flexibility: by supporting a wider range of sheet sizes and weights, the long sheet delivery unit can open new revenue streams for printers looking to embrace more diverse offerings such as 6- or 8-page letter brochures, panoramic posters or dust jackets for large books. When the original KODAK NEXPRESS 2100 Digital Color Production Press was announced in 2001, there was an emphasis on designing the new press with the backbone of an offset press. Both then and now, tight registration and a support philosophy around the press operator maintaining press quality and consistency have been heralded as advanced for the industry. When Kodak introduced the updated 2100 Plus in 2005, the design allowed for frequent and significant upgrades to the press as new features, functionality and improved consumables became available to the market.Electronics, specifically Digital Front Ends (DFEs), has traditionally been an area where digital presses have not had the same benefits as an offset press design. While an older offset press can sustain production for decades, digital devices have often become obsolete as advances in electronics are incorporated in new designs and offerings from manufacturers. With NEXPRESS Presses, Kodak has made a concerted effort to change that approach with the continuous improvement and availability of robust, proprietary front end electronics for the press. To support that endeavor, Kodak is introducing the KODAK NEXPRESS VII Front End High Performance and Ultra Performance configurations, the newest DFEs for the KODAK NEXPESS Platform.#About Kodak Kodak is a technology company focused on imaging for business.
