Solutions span the packaging value chain and help professionals drive impact and efficiency from concept to consumer
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 23—Kodak will be showcasing packaging solutions that preserve brand equity and security, enhance shelf appeal, and drive efficiency from design through print production at Booth S7014 at Pack Expo 2011—one of the premier packaging shows in the U.S.—in Las Vegas. Visitors to the Kodak booth will experience a unique portfolio that provides sustainable brand management and prepress solutions for global businesses.
A new addition to the already successful KODAK TRACELESS System is the TRACELESS AD System for Antidiversion, a security solution for manufacturers that uses an invisible ink and a proprietary detection system to defend against gray market activities. The KODAK TRACELESS AD System helps brand owners track products and prevent the creation of illegitimate distribution channels and unauthorized resellers.
“There is a lot of pressure on brand owners and packaging professionals to stand out today with innovation and impact, but at the same time, they need to protect their brand from unauthorized use or reproduction,” said Dr. John Anderson, Packaging Segment Director of Marketing, Americas, Kodak. “We provide a full suite of solutions that raise the bar on packaging quality while improving efficiency and security with cutting-edge technology.”
Regardless of your role in the packaging value chain, Kodak provides solutions that add value and open new opportunities for growth. Kodak’s packaging solutions help brand owners protect brand value, increase shelf impact, and accelerate speed to market; while for package designers, Kodak’s solutions help conquer complexity and offer greater creative flexibility. For packaging trade shops, Kodak’s solutions help them stand out from the crowd and differentiate their offerings. And finally, Kodak’s packaging solutions help printers/converters enhance the value of print, better satisfy their customers, and deliver the brand intent to consumers.
Another new development being shown at Pack Expo is KODAK DESIGN2LAUNCH Brand Manager, a centralized digital workflow and brand-asset management solution. This technology enables enterprise packaging and marketing teams to securely approve, organize and distribute packaging and marketing artwork, layouts and other digital assets to departments, regions and suppliers. The web-based solution provides end users with process management tools that can boost operational efficiency, increase speed-to-market, and improve brand consistency over multi-channel marketing and packaging assets.
KODAK RECIPE COLOR Profiler is a new software solution that allows package printers and brand owners to more accurately predict colors on press while at the same time reducing costs and improving efficiency. With the new RECIPE COLOR Profiler, flexographic printers can develop complex spot color recipes in less time and with fewer donor sheets for the KODAK APPROVAL NX Digital Color Imaging System.
In addition to these new products, Kodak will also address the needs of package production environments with its established portfolio of flexographic and workflow technologies:
- KODAK FLEXCEL NX Digital Flexographic System – Award-winning digital plate system delivers real advantages to flexographic printing, achieving levels of print quality normally expected from gravure, offset, or digital printing and driving significant production efficiencies in the press room
- KODAK TRILLIAN SP Thermal Plates – Deliver productivity with reduced chemistry consumption, long unbaked run length capability including UV and strong chemical resistance required for offset packaging production
- KODAK Unified Workflow Solutions – Featuring KODAK PRINERGY POWERPACK Workflow System and its Packaging Layout Automation Software, which automates the time-intensive task of object layout, eliminating manual steps and helping to reduce operator errors
- KODAK INSITE Prepress Portal System – The solution provides secure web access for remote job submission, progress tracking, and approval—automating some of the most critical, time-consuming workflow steps

To show attendees how package design influences consumer buying decisions at the point of purchase, Kodak is sponsoring the Consumer Retail Experience—a new, interactive feature created by Clemson University. Using digital eye tracking technology, students from Clemson University will track what participants look at or were persuaded by as they walk through a simulated retail environment against what they purchase. The Consumer Retail Experience will also include an area where participants can see packages in a virtual retail space. Images will change regularly during the show.
Kodak’s Ron Malloy, Worldwide Director of Growth Initiatives, Business Solutions and Services Group, will be moderating and participating in a Pack Expo Brand Zone panel session on Brand Security. Also on the panel are Denny Belcastro, Executive Vice President, Industry Relations and Collaboration, Grocery Manufacturers Association; Matthew Rhodes, Global Brand Protection Intelligence Analyst, Procter & Gamble; and Sean Mullin, National Program Manager for Homeland Security Investigations, United States Department of Homeland Security. The session will take place at 10:15 am on September 27.
Professionals will be available in the Kodak booth at Pack Expo to show samples and talk about the many powerful tools available to improve the packaging process. “We promise not to only talk about only the how and why of production, but we’ll also show how we can offer added value to to the process and how we help customers do more with packaging,” added Anderson.
