Brand Protection Takes Center Stage at Kodak-Sponsored IQPC Conference

Experts gather in New York City to examine the counterfeiting and product diversion risks brand owners face todayROCHESTER, N.Y., Nov. 21—As one of the sponsors of the 11th Anti-Counterfeiting & Brand Protection East Coast Summit, Kodak met with attendees, presented its broad portfolio of brand protection solutions, and participated in interactive workshops. Keith Cutri, Kodak’s Director of Business Development, Brand Protection Solutions, served as the chair for the second day of the conference. “The goal of every brand today is to become more global, but with that expansion come a variety of risks and a tremendous set of challenges,” noted Cutri. “Billions of dollars and years of customer loyalty and goodwill are at stake for counterfeiters and diverters looking to exploit demand. Unfortunately, Customs officials and law enforcement cannot provide full protection, so brand owners must take steps to deploy a robust brand protection program to track and protect their products.”The three-day conference featured workshops, panel discussions, and presentations for the brand owners, security professionals, and law enforcement officials in attendance. Some of the topics included best practices for building a holistic anti-counterfeiting strategy, understanding how to allocate your resources efficiently, and learning about the international perspective and how global brand owners are taking the fight back to counterfeiters. Cutri led a pre-conference workshop entitled “How Solid is Your Brand Protection Program?” In this session, he helped attendees assess the strength of their programs, understand the risks of gray market product diversion and illicit trade, and learn how to bolster the effectiveness of authentication and track & trace programs. On day two of the main conference, Cutri led a panel discussion with John DiPalo, COO of Acsis Inc. The topic was “Track & Trace and the Movement of Goods,” covering implications of doing business in a truly global marketplace. Discussion points included best practices for serialization and the importance of item-level traceability. Kodak recently named Acsis as a serialization partner of choice for dual serialization track & trace systems on the packaging line.“Kodak has a strong history of working with companies around the world to develop, implement, and refine brand protection strategies,” concluded Cutri. “Being part of these events allows us to share our expertise while learning more about the issues that our customers face every day. It’s a very complex problem—one that needs a partner with the right solutions and a deep understanding of the market. Kodak is that partner.”To learn more about Kodak’s full line of brand protection solutions, please visit www.kodak.com/go/brandprotection. Kodak Demonstrates Advanced Security Solutions at High Security Printing Conference in Bogota

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Aug. 29—Last month’s annual High Security Printing Conference in Bogota attracted a wide variety of attendees, all gathered to explore the challenges affecting central banks and government issuers in Latin America—and discover a host of innovative techniques and systems designed to address them. During the event, Kodak showcased its broad portfolio of solutions designed to help banks, government agencies, law enforcement agencies, printers, and other professionals ensure that printed products remain authentic, secure, and traceable. The final day of the event featured a conference track focused on “The Digital Security Revolution,” which considered the impact of new digital technologies on the security landscape. Kodak’s Genaro Fernandez, International Director of Business Development Services, Enterprise Services and Solutions, presented a session entitled “A New Class of Overt and Covert Print Security Features.” In this session, Fernandez discussed Kodak’s portfolio of overt and covert print security ink technology that is enabled through continuous inkjet (CIJ) digital printing systems.Representing a new approach to authentication countermeasures and track & trace systems, these new security features can be deployed onto various substrates to secure passports, licenses, vehicle registrations, ID Cards, tax stamps, and other important items. “By integrating modern CIJ capabilities with very robust clear or colored inks, providers can now deliver variable print functionality in both the visible and invisible spectrum, with embedded features that provide built-in authentication and enable tracking functionality,” explained Fernandez. “Through the use of vision cameras configured with specialized illuminators and filters, and track & trace software, providers can now automate the process of covert print validation, serialization, aggregation, and global distribution of documents. This new technology can also be layered onto existing traditional commercial print security features such as holograms, taggants, and other security inks, providing even greater protection for banks, governments, and other document providers.”More than 250 professionals from across Latin America attended the event, learning more about how Kodak can deliver new opportunities to enhance security for printed items. Attendees came to the Kodak booth to see real-life applications and speak with Kodak experts about solutions designed to meet their specific needs. The next High Security Printing Conference will be held June 23-25, 2014 in Santiago, Chile. Kodak Returns to IACC Spring Conference to Showcase Expertise and Experience in Protecting Brand Owners from the Global Threats of Counterfeiting and Product Diversion

Kodak Returns to IACC Spring Conference to Showcase Expertise and Experience in Protecting Brand Owners from the Global Threats of Counterfeiting and Product DiversionROCHESTER, N.Y., May 1—Kodak joins industry leaders this week during the International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition’s (IACC) Spring Conference, May 1–3, to discuss the solutions and strategies that mitigate the global risk of counterfeiting and product diversion. “Product diversion is a widespread problem that costs brand owners billions of dollars in lost profits and puts millions of consumers at risk,” said Keith Cutri, Director of Business Development for Kodak’s Brand Protection Services and a former FBI agent with nearly 30 years of industry experience. “Kodak is devoted to preventing product diversion with robust systems that enable brands to monitor, track, detect, authenticate, and enforce the protection of products.”Kodak’s track & trace and authentication solutions feature dual serialization marking and coding paradigms that place two codes on a product or package—an overt code for routine aggregation and distribution processes, and an invisible corresponding covert code used for enforcement. Kodak has teamed up with industry software and hardware leaders to deliver fully customized brand protection solutions with its best-in-class KODAK Track & Trace System, vision camera systems, handheld barcode readers, and packaging line integration, coupled with the KODAK TRACELESS Solutions family of covert markers, smartphone apps, Incident Monitoring System, and Brand Protection Services portfolio.      Experts from Kodak’s Brand Protection Solutions group will show examples of these solutions during the IACC Spring Conference. Businesses and enterprise organizations around the world rely on KODAK Solutions to protect their manufacturing, marketing, packaging, sales and product distribution.       “We are pleased to have Kodak—a founding member of the IACC over three decades ago—participating in this year’s conference. We look forward to Kodak’s continued leadership in the fight against counterfeits, and to their contributions to the Coalition for years to come,” Bob Barchiesi, IACC President. “As counterfeiting operations have become more sophisticated, it has become increasingly difficult to distinguish between goods that are real and those that are fake. Last year, U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized over $1 billion in fake goods at the border, but we know that the actual volume is much higher. The IACC sees significant value in the anti-counterfeiting technologies that are available to assist legitimate manufacturers, law enforcement personnel and consumers in authenticating goods. We are glad to provide a channel of communication between rights-holders, law enforcement, and such service providers.”      Kodak’s ubiquitous monitoring solution builds upon the dual serialization capability with a smartphone scanning app, which helps to strengthen product defense and enables consumer-level participation in brand protection programs. When a consumer or end user scans the QR code, the brand owner gathers marketing information. Consumers are entered into a loyalty program or receive instant authentication of the product. Meanwhile, the smartphone scans also enable ubiquitous monitoring by sending alerts to an Incident Monitoring System. Examples of alerts could include diversion alerts, counterfeiting alerts, product recalls, and stolen product alerts.       Kodak has a strong history of working with global companies to implement tailored brand protection security systems. Its applications include security features for use in packaging, inks, substrates, plastics, and directly in product materials.
