There are a couple of ways of modifying the GUI for your users.

Method #1
Go "Bar" hopping by disabling the display of selected "Bars" (i.e., Tool Bar, Button Bar, Status Bar....) from the Capture Software Options menu:

By disabling the Button Bar, Status Bar, Tool Bar, and selecting the Default Scanner Bar, the Capture Software Main Window will now look like this:

You need to be careful though...for if you also disable the Default Scanner Bar, then the Start and Stop Scanner buttons will no longer be displayed!

Method #2
Disable the use of selected tools and Main Window options through the use of User Profiles.

By default, Capture Software comes with one user and one user group that has access to all Capture Software functions and capabilities. Through the use of User Profiles, you can establish new users and user groups while at the same time reducing user access to selected functions. The end result can be a simpler user interface.

The following example describes the steps you would take to create a new user called Operator. The Operator user will not have access to the following Capture Software features:

• Application Setup or creating new applications
• Page Setup or selecting a different Page Setup for scanning
• Post-scanning tools: Rescan, Insert, Delete end of Document, Crop, Blank, Copy, Copy Area, Print, Split, Move
• Other features such as Attach and Delete Document

1) Select Properties from the File menu and click on the User Profiles...button.

2) Click on the Groups button and then click New.

3) Click OK to create a new group based on the All options enabled group.

4) Type in the new Group name Basic.

5) For each Capture Software feature Option (as selected in the drop-down list box) there will be a set of user privileges that can be enabled/disabled:

Disable (or uncheck) the following privileges for each of the Options:

6) Click OK until you get back to the Users dialog. From this dialog click New to create a new user.

7) Type in the new user name of Operator (for this example, also set the Password to "operator"). Make sure you select Basic as the member group:

8) Click OK to save the new user and group. Log out of Capture Software and log back in as the Operator:

9) The Open Application window that is displayed will also be simpler:

10) After opening up or creating a new batch, the Capture Software Main Window will now look like this for the Operator user:

Yes, and it's easy as 1-2-PDF !!

Capture Software has always been able to create PDF files from your scanned documents, whether they are scanned in black and white and/or color. You can even give the PDF file any name you want. Furthermore, creating PDF files is also available in Capture Software Lite.

And, starting with Capture Software Version 6.7, it is really easy.

Capture Software now ships with a pre-configured application called Scan to PDF. When you start Capture Software for the first time after installation, the Open Application window will look like this:

Setting Up

The first thing you need to do is to specify the folder or directory to where you want to save your PDF files. Follow these easy steps:

1) From the "Open Application" window highlight Scan to PDF and click the Setup button

2) Click on the Output tab and in the Path field, enter the directory location for storing your PDF files.

3) Click OK to save your changes

Scanning and Creating PDF Files

1) From the "Open Application" window highlight Scan to PDF and click the New Batch button.

2) The "Create New Batch" window will be displayed. Capture Software will suggest a Batch Name for you

3) Click OK to accept this name and create a new batch.

4) The Capture Software Main Window will be displayed. Place the pages of the document you want to scan in the feeder of the Kodak Scanner and press the Green Start button to start scanning (Note: By default, scanning will take place in Bitonal (or Black and White). To scan in Color, you need to select a different Page name from the Page drop-down list).

5) After the first page is scanned, Capture Software will prompt you to enter the name of the PDF Document that you want to create:

6) Enter the Document Name and click OK.

7) If necessary, continue scanning the rest of the pages of the document.

8) When finished, press the Process button to create your PDF file.

There will now be a PDF file, with the name you gave it, in the Folder you specified.

As you can see. It's as easy as 1-2-PDF !!

When you install Capture Software for Kodak iSeries Scanners, you can only select one scanner model during the installation (e.g., i30/i40):

There are times, however, when you need to demo or scan your work with one scanner one day (e.g., i30/i40) and switch to another scanner (i160) the next day.

Here how:

1) Run the ScanMgr.exe located in the Program Files directory where Capture Software is installed (e.g., C;\Program Files\Kodak\Xvcs6C). The Scanner Manager executable is located in the ScanMgr sub-directory.

2) Scanner Manager displays the list of scanners that are currently installed. When a scanner is installed, the Capture Software driver layer for the scanner is effectively enabled in the installation:

3) Click on the Add... button to display the entire list of supported Kodak scanners:

4) Highlight the scanner model you want to add. Select the driver for the scanner model in the Driver list and click the OK button.

5) The scanner model is now ready to use with Capture Software. You can only add one scanner model at a time.

6) You must exit and restart Capture Software to connect to the powered-on scanner.
